West Georgia Track Club Hosts Third Annual Road Race in Carrollton

Hundreds of west Georgians and runners from across the Southeast are expected to converge in Carrollton on Saturday, March 10, for the third annual West Georgia Track Club Road Race.

Tanner Health System’s Get Healthy, Live Well is sponsoring the road race, which is presented by Superior Recreational Products. The race will begin at 8 a.m. and will showcase the Carrollton GreenBelt.

“Getting just 30 minutes of physical activity a day not only helps lower your blood pressure and cholesterol, it can also reduce your risks for cancer, diabetes and heart disease,” said Patricia Mitchell, community outreach coordinator at Get Healthy, Live Well. “Participating in the West Georgia Track Club Road Race will help you reach that goal.”

Get Healthy, Live Well is also partnering with the West Georgia Track Club to host Move It Mondays, an eight-week, walk-to-jog program. The program includes weekly group sessions featuring a combination of walking and running.

The next session of Move It Mondays will begin on Feb. 26, with a meet and greet from 5 to 6 p.m. at Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton in Classroom 1. Regular meetings for the program will begin March 5 at 6 p.m. on the walking trail on the Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton campus. Parking will be available in the Clinic Avenue Parking Deck on the third floor or above.

The March 10 road race includes USATF-certified 5K and 10K courses, which makes them Peachtree Road Race qualifiers.

“The Road Runners Club of America chose the 5K as this year’s RRCA Georgia State Championship, promising to make this year’s race fun and competitive,” said West Georgia Track Club President Tyler Woodard.  “We look forward to seeing all levels of competition compete at this year’s road race.”

Online registration for the West Georgia Track Club Road Race is available through 5 p.m. on March 9. Same day registration is available onsite. Those participating in the race are encouraged to upload pre- or post-race photos on social media with the hashtags #WGTCRoadRace and #GHLW.
