Tanner Health System is embarking on a major expansion of urgent care access for residents with minor medical emergencies, with a new Tanner Urgent Care now open in Bremen near Ingles in addition to locations in Carrollton and Villa Rica.
Tanner Urgent Care locations offer walk-in treatment for minor medical emergencies—including colds and flu, cuts and lacerations, burns and rashes, fevers, sprains and more—with evening and weekend hours available so patients can access care on their schedule. All locations serve adults and children.
Tanner Immediate Care/Carrollton opened in early June. The clinic is located temporarily in the Tanner Occupational Health Center on Dixie Street, just across from Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton. Plans are being finalized for the construction of a new medical facility to house Tanner Urgent Care/Carrollton and Tanner Occupational Health on a 2.5-acre site next to Steak ‘n Shake on Highway 27 South in Carrollton.
When the Highway 27 South location opens in late 2014, Tanner Immediate Care/Carrollton and Tanner Occupational Health will relocate from its current location.
Tanner Urgent Care/Bremen, located just off Business 27 near Ingles at 100 Tanner Drive, opened Sept. 3 in a new, 10,000-square-foot building, 8,000 square feet of which is occupied following the first phase of construction. Up to 6,000 additional square feet can be added to the facility when needed.
Tanner has operated an immediate care location in the Tanner at Mirror Lake medical office building, convenient to Interstate 20 and Highway 78 and near the Publix at Mirror Lake shopping center, since 2008. That location has been extremely popular, attracting about 18,000 patient visits in the past year.
Urgent care services also have expanded into east Alabama, with Tanner Primary Care of Wedowee—located in the Tanner/East Alabama medical office building just south of downtown Wedowee—offering walk-in care for minor medical emergencies and evening and weekend hours.
“We’re proud of our 24-hour emergency departments and strong network of primary care providers,” said Howard. “But people in our region want a third option. With Tanner Urgent Care, we’re offering the only walk-in treatment options in the region backed by the resources of a regional health system and integrated into a network of specialists and primary care providers.”
Howard said the Tanner Urgent Care locations will be instrumental in helping people maintain their health, especially those with chronic and acute health problems.
“For those who are unable to schedule a doctor’s visit and who have a medical condition that could worsen without prompt attention, access to a Tanner Urgent Care location is a critical link in their continuum of care,” said Howard. “It gives people an opportunity to receive treatment without relying on a hospital emergency department.”
