Tanner to Host ‘Advancing Your Health’ Series on Heart Health

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in west Georgia and east Alabama, and — along with developing a leading-edge heart care program — Tanner Health System hopes to further make a dent in that trend by teaching residents how to avoid and safely live with the disease.

Tanner Heart Care is launching a “State of the Heart” series of educational discussions. The first session will be held on Thursday, April 20, at noon in Classroom 2 of the Health Education and Wellness Learning Center at Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton, 705 Dixie Street.

The discussion will be led by Shazib Khawaja, MD, a board-certified interventional cardiologist and vascular specialist with Tanner Heart & Vascular Specialists and medical operations leader for Tanner Heart Care. It will cover topics such as coronary artery disease, heart failure, heart arrhythmias and more. Dr. Khawaja also will offer clinically proven advice to keep hearts healthy.

A complimentary, heart-healthy lunch will be served. Seating is limited and registration is required. Those interested can register themselves and a guest online at www.tanner.org/beatgoeson or call 770.214.CARE (2273) to register.

“State of the Heart” is part of Tanner’s Advancing Your Health educational series, which provides residents with access to free health information from the region’s leading health experts, covering a wide range of topics, including heart disease, orthopedics, urology and more. Other upcoming opportunities can be found in the Classes and Events calendar at www.tanner.org/calendar.
