Tanner President and CEO Loy Howard Receives Community Service Award From Carrollton DAR Chapter

The Abraham Baldwin Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) presented Tanner Health System President and CEO Loy Howard with its annual community service award on Monday in an award ceremony at Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton.

“DAR is proud to have presented our Community Service Award to Loy Howard,” said Alice Robinson, regent of the Abraham Baldwin Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. “He has been such a boon for our community. He is a humble, multifaceted, far-thinking man who has helped Tanner Medical Center grow from a small community hospital to a regional health system with multiple hospitals serving communities that truly appreciate having access to quality health care near their homes. And his life doesn't stop at being a CEO; he is a loving father and husband, respected leader and valuable citizen in our area.”

Howard was surprised by the award, which was secretly arranged with administrative staff, and attended by Tanner Medical Center Inc. Board of Directors Chairman Daniel Jackson.

“It is truly an honor to receive a community service award from such a dedicated and esteemed group, chartered here in Carrollton since 1953,” said Howard. “I have long admired the DAR for their dedication to historic preservation, education, genealogy, American independence and more.”

The Abraham Baldwin Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution was named in honor of Abraham Baldwin, who was born in 1754, graduated from Yale College at age 18 and was admitted to the bar in 1784. Three months later, Baldwin was elected to the Georgia state legislature and became the father of Georgia’s university system (University of Georgia). He was also a member of the Constitutional Convention of 1787, helping to draft the United States Constitution, which he signed. In 1788, he was elected to the U.S. Congress and was reelected every two years to the House of Representatives until 1798, when he was elected to the U. S. Senate. He served as a senator until his death in1807.

The Abraham Baldwin Chapter is active in the national and state of Georgia societies of the Daughters of the American Revolution and participates in numerous community activities.
