Tanner Hosting Free ‘Don’t Procrastinate With Your Prostate’ Discussion in Wedowee

Prostate problems are a normal part of the aging process for men. The symptoms aren’t easy to ignore, but they can be difficult to discuss or describe.

As men age, their prostates grow larger. Because the prostate wraps around the urethra, which carries urine form the bladder out of the body, this enlarged prostate can cause urinary issues for men, including dribbling after urination, feeling like the bladder is not completely empty and more.

In addition, as they age, men’s risk of developing prostate cancer increases. One man in seven will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in his lifetime, making it the third leading cause of cancer-related death among men, according to the American Cancer Society.

James Cullison, MD, a board-certified urologist with West Georgia Urology and a member of the medical staff at Tanner Health System, will lead a free discussion on Wednesday, May 24, from noon to 1 p.m. The discussion will be held at the Chimney Cove Clubhouse at Lake Wedowee, 88 Fireside Drive. This is a chance for men to learn more about the proven, clinically based approaches available for treating prostate problems like benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), as well as detecting prostate cancer in its earliest stages when treatment is most effective.

West Georgia Urology and Tanner Health System offer specialized urological care at Tanner/East Alabama in Wedowee.

The presentation will be part of Tanner’s Advancing Your Health Education Series, which provides residents with access to free health information from the region’s leading health experts, covering a wide range of topics, including heart disease, orthopedics, women’s care and more. Other upcoming opportunities can be found in the Classes and Events calendar at www.tanner.org/calendar.

A complimentary lunch will be provided. Registration is required and seating is limited. Men may register themselves and a guest online at www.tanner.org/prostate or by calling 1.888.799.6309.
