Some of the best physicians are those who are focused not only on improving the health and wellbeing of their patients but also the communities they serve.
In recognition of her professional leadership, advocacy and service in the community, Amy Eubanks, MD, FACP, a board-certified internal medicine physician with Primary Care of Bremen, has been awarded the 2018 Outstanding Early Career Physician Award by the Georgia chapter of the American College of Physicians (ACP).
“Dr. Eubanks is an outstanding physician in every category of this award,” said Mary Daniels, executive director of the Georgia Chapter of the American College of Physicians. “She has been an active, tireless advocate for physicians and patients. She is clearly an outstanding member of the ACP chapter of Georgia, and she is a leader among her colleagues and a well-respected member of our chapter.”
Dr. Walter Moore, Governor of the ACP Georgia Chapter presented Dr. Eubanks with the award during the chapter’s annual meeting in October at Callaway Gardens.
The Outstanding Early Career Physician Award recognizes outstanding achievement by a physician member for community service, advocacy, mentoring and volunteerism. This award is reserved for physicians who have graduated medical school within the last 16 years and who are not a current ACP medical student member or resident or fellow member.
Dr. Eubanks has been a member of the ACP for more than 17 years. During that time, she has been involved in the chapter’s work on many levels.
She was one of the original members of the chapter’s Council of Early Career Physicians (CECP), where she served as committee chair for three years. The CECP is a council for physicians who have graduated medical school within the last 17 years. She has also been involved in the chapter’s annual state legislative day and has helped mentor members of the CECP on advocacy at the state level. She represented the chapter in the eighth graduating class of the Georgia Physicians Leadership Academy and has helped facilitate the chapter’s Women’s Networking Breakfast. She has also trained as a Well‐Being Champion through the national ACP and is currently serving as the chair of the Georgia chapter’s Wellness Committee, where she’s spearheading initiatives to promote wellness.
In addition to her service within the ACP of Georgia, Dr. Eubanks was also recognized for her commitment and service in the community.
For several years, Dr. Eubanks has served as a healthcare provider in west Georgia and currently serves as chair of the Chronic Disease Prevention and Management Committee for Tanner’s Get Healthy, Live Well coalition.
“I am truly honored to have been selected for this award from the Georgia chapter of the American College of Physicians,” said Eubanks. “My membership in the GA ACP has had a major impact on my professional career. My mentors in this chapter have truly guided me and given me opportunities for growth in leadership, advocacy, and overall professional development. I am pleased that I have been able to use these skills to serve my community, advocate for health issues with our legislature, and mentor my younger ACP colleagues.”
Dr. Eubanks lives in west Georgia with her husband, Steven Eubanks, MD, a board-certified pediatrician with Children’s Healthcare of West Georgia, and their three children: Emily, 10, Trey, 15, and Lexi, 18.
She and her family are members of the First United Methodist Church of Bremen, where Dr. Eubanks plays in the church’s praise band, writes and directs the children’s Christmas play and serves as co-chair of the church’s missions committee.
