Services Continue at Higgins General Hospital Despite Natural Gas Outage

Tanner Health System is working with Atlanta Gas Light to ensure operations at Higgins General Hospital in Bremen continue as seamlessly as possible during the current natural gas outage.

Tanner was notified of the outage by Atlanta Gas Light on the evening of Feb. 13. Patient care areas at Higgins General Hospital already use electric heating units, so the facility did not encounter any issues with heat for patient care areas. (On-site generators provide auxiliary power to keep patient care areas heated in the event of a power outage.) Contingency plans were activated for preparing food for patients and staff until natural gas service could be restored.

Atlanta Gas Light furnished a modular supply of natural gas on Feb. 14, ensuring that the hospital remains up and running. This supply has allowed the hospital to resume normal kitchen operations and to ensure that non-patient care areas of the hospital have heat if needed.

Tanner maintains contingency plans for all manner of utility service interruptions — including telecom, electricity, water and natural gas — to ensure that our facilities are able to continue serving the community when faced with outages such as this.

We continue to monitor the situation and we express our gratitude for Atlanta Gas Light crews as they diligently work to restore service.
