Myriam Vela-Ortiz, MD, Joins Carroll County Nephrology



Many conditions can affect the kidneys, from diabetes and high blood pressure to genetic disorders like polycystic kidney disease and more.

Now, greater access to specialized care for kidney conditions is coming to west Georgia and east Alabama as Myriam Vela-Ortiz, MD, joins Carroll County Nephrology and the medical staff of Tanner Health System.

Dr. Vela-Ortiz is board-certified in internal medicine with a specialty in nephrology. She earned her medical degree at the Colegio Mayor de Nuestra Señora del Rosario in Bogota, Colombia, and completed a residency in internal medicine at Easton Hospital in Easton, Pennsylvania. She also completed a fellowship in nephrology at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia.

Fluent in both English and Spanish, Dr. Vela-Ortiz has experience in effectively diagnosing and treating a wide range of kidney diseases resulting from diabetes, high blood pressure and polycystic kidney disease, as well as renal transplant patients. She also has co-authored publications in peer-reviewed journals and presented abstracts at the National Kidney Foundation Annual Conference, the National ACP Conference and the American Society of Nephrology.

With Carroll County Nephrology, Dr. Vela-Ortiz joins the patient care team of board-certified nephrologists Maria Orig, MD; Bryan Quinn, MD; Kilsy Cuello Pichardo, MD; and Emily Massey, NP-C, offering a complete approach to kidney health for residents throughout west Georgia and east Alabama.

Carroll County Nephrology has offices in Bremen, Carrollton and Villa Rica. The practice also offers dialysis services in Bremen, Carrollton, Douglasville and Villa Rica.
