Be Advised: Stormwater Work to Detour Traffic on Dixie Street March 20-22

A stormwater mitigation project under management of the city of Carrollton will close traffic in the northbound and southbound lanes of Dixie Street just in front of Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton. The road is expected to be closed beginning the morning of Wednesday, March 20, and will remain closed until Friday, March 22.

Dixie Street closing for storm water projectThe closure will affect the portion of Dixie Street from Henry Burson Avenue to just north of Ambulance Drive.

Anyone traveling to Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton for an appointment, test or to visit a patient should allow extra time for detours and traffic delays. The city will post notice of the road closure and detour routes around the campus.

Those traveling from the north (State Route 166/Newnan Street) may be detoured down Croft Street to turn left onto Professional Place. Traffic may then proceed right to the Clinic Avenue Parking Deck or the emergency department.

Those traveling from the south (South Park Street/Highway 27/Martha Berry Highway) may be detoured onto Southwire Drive, along Fertilla Street and left onto Austin Avenue back west to Dixie Street.

Traffic also may access the Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton campus by turning onto Clinic Avenue from South Park Street.

The city is closing the road to replace existing 24-inch stormwater pipes with larger, 60-inch pipes. The project will require the city to cut across Dixie Street near Ambulance Drive to replace the pipes. The project was necessitated by continued development along Dixie Street, including the construction of a new spur of the Carrollton GreenBelt that links the Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton campus — and its mile-and-a-half of daylight walking trails — with the 18-mile pedestrian and cycling network.
