5K, Fun Run Raises $4,000 for Carrollton GreenBelt

The University of West Georgia’s Third Annual Presidential 5K Spirit Run brought in more than $4,000 for the Carrollton GreenBelt.

More than 220 adults and children participated in the Oct. 20 event on the university’s campus. In partnership with the University of West Georgia (UWG), Tanner Health System’s Get Healthy, Live Well hosted a 1-mile Superhero Fun Run. Each child who registered received a cape.

“Get Healthy, Live Well is always happy to partner with the university in providing fun, family-friendly events that promote physical activity,” said Patricia Mitchell, wellness and prevention coordinator at Get Healthy, Live Well. “The race may be over, but we encourage the community to stay active and explore the Carrollton GreenBelt.”

The event included activities, games, healthy snacks and water for the kids. Both races started at 6 p.m., beginning and ending at The Coliseum on the UWG campus. Proceeds from the event benefited the GreenBelt.

“The GreenBelt is an incredible asset for our community, providing an opportunity for bikers, runners and walkers alike to exercise along a safe route,” said UWG President Kyle Marrero. “We are thankful for those that participated in the Presidential 5K and helped raise funds to further improve this valuable resource.”

Winners in the 5K were recognized immediately following the race. In addition to awards for race winners, there were prices for the most spirited costumes. After the race, some participants stayed for UWG’s Homecoming Glow Parade.
