Tanner Heart Care offers an accredited cardiac rehabilitation program in the John and Barbara Tanner Cardiac Rehabilitation Center at Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton.

Tanner’s program is accredited by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR).

What is cardiac rehabilitation?

Cardiac rehabilitation, or cardiac rehab, is a medically-supervised exercise and educational program to help people who have heart disease or who are recovering from a heart attack or heart surgery.

The goals of cardiac rehab

While cardiac rehab can’t change your past, it can improve your heart’s future. It is designed to help you improve your ability to function, prepare you for future daily activities and teach you ways to maintain a healthier heart.

The goal of cardiac rehab is to strengthen the heart muscle and teach you healthy behaviors to lower the risk of future heart problems.

Three phases of cardiac rehab

At Tanner Heart Care, there are three phases of cardiac rehabilitation:

Inpatient

The first phase begins while you are still in the hospital. A cardiac rehab nurse or exercise specialist assesses your risk factors, needs and activity level.

Recovery

This phase is a medically supervised exercise and education program to help strengthen your heart and teach you a heart-healthy lifestyle.

Wellness Visits

During this phase, you continue an exercise program while Tanner staff monitors your progress during a regular schedule of visits.

Scheduling cardiac rehab

You will need a physician’s order for cardiac rehab. Your cardiologist does not have to be on Tanner’s medical staff to refer you for cardiac rehab in Carrollton, reducing time-consuming travel to Atlanta, Marietta, Newnan, LaGrange or Rome.

Please note that you must wait three weeks after a cardiac intervention or four weeks after open-heart surgery before beginning an exercise program.

Call 770-812-8289 for more information or fax your order to 770-812-8369.
