UWG Nursing Preceptorship

Want to practice real-world skills to help you in your nursing career? Through our nursing preceptorship program, Tanner Health System’s Get Healthy, Live Well is giving senior nursing students an opportunity to experience healthcare delivery outside of the classroom walls.

Hands-on Health Education

In partnership with University of West Georgia’s Tanner Health System School of Nursing, the preceptorship program helps students increase their knowledge and gain hands-on skills through community health work. Preceptors can participate in several community health initiatives that focus on improving nutrition, increasing physical activity, and managing or preventing chronic disease.

Putting Skills into Action

Since 2016, more than 200 senior nursing students have completed the preceptorship program. After orientation, preceptors have gone on to facilitate vital community health and wellness programs including:

  • Diabetes Prevention
  • Faith-Based Community Health Education Events
  • Freshstart Tobacco Cessation
  • Get Healthy Kids Programs

How Your Period Can Reveal Your Health Story
How Your Period Can Reveal Your Health Story

At Tanner Women’s Care, serving women throughout west Georgia and east Alabama with locations in Carrollton, Villa Rica and Wedowee, we hear common questions like, “Is my period normal? How often should it occur? When should I worry about irregular periods?” These concerns are valid and deserve clear answers close to home. Typically, a healthy menstrual cycle occurs every 21 to 35 days, lasts from three to seven days, and is accompanied by a flow that doesn’t interfere with daily life. But “normal” can vary — what truly matters is knowing your own rhythm and noticing when things change.
