Tanner Medical Center/Villa Rica has been named one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals by Truven Health Analytics, a leading provider of data-driven analytics and solutions to improve the cost and quality of healthcare.
Truven Health named the acute care hospital to its 100 Top Hospitals list for 2015. The hospital was among just three Georgia hospitals to place on the list — Emory University Hospital placed among major teaching hospitals and Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton was recognized among large community hospitals. Tanner Medical Center/Villa Rica placed in the small community hospitals category.
The annual study from Truven Health evaluates performance in 11 key areas of quality: mortality; medical complications; patient safety; average patient stay; expenses; profitability; patient satisfaction; adherence to clinical standards of care; and post-discharge mortality and readmission rates for heart attacks, heart failure and pneumonia; and, new for this year, Medicare Spend per Beneficiary. The addition of Medicare Spend leverages CMS data to evaluate the cost incurred for an episode of care across pre- and post- discharge settings for Medicare patients. Truven has released its study annually for more than 20 years, beginning in 1993.
This is the fourth time Tanner Medical Center/Villa Rica has been recognized as a 100 Top Hospital; it was previously honored in 1996, 2001 and 2014.

The 100 Top Hospitals study is designed to identify highly effective leadership teams that have achieved high performance across the whole hospital’s balanced performance — clinically, operationally and financially — and have generated high patient perception of care.”
To conduct the 100 Top Hospitals study, Truven researchers evaluated 3,000 short-term, acute-care, non-federal hospitals. They used public information — Medicare cost reports, Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MedPAR) data, and core measures and patient satisfaction data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services CMS Hospital Compare Web site. Hospitals do not apply and winners do not pay to market this honor.
