Free Varicose Vein Screenings Coming to Carrollton

Free screening and evaluation for varicose veins will be offered in Carrollton, courtesy of Carrollton Surgical Group.

More than simply an aesthetic issue, varicose veins are a potentially serious medical condition that occurs when the veins in the legs are no longer able to carry blood back to the heart and lungs.

“Instead, the blood pools in the veins in the legs,” said Jon Stanford, MD, a board-certified surgeon with Carrollton Surgical Group, part of Tanner Medical Group. “That causes the veins to stand out in that dark blue color. It also causes the legs to feel heavy, sore or sluggish.”

Untreated, poor circulation related to varicose veins in the legs can lead to a range of other health problems, including sores that won’t heal, hair loss and more.

Carrollton Surgical Group is offering free varicose vein screenings in Classroom 2 of the Health Education and Wellness Learning Center at Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton on Saturday, Jan. 30, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Registration is required. Residents can register for a free varicose vein screening in Carrollton by calling 770.214.CARE (2273). Spaces are limited and some screening criteria apply. Those being screened should wear loose-fitting clothing that allows easy access to their legs, such as shorts.

“We’re able to offer very effective, in-office treatments for varicose veins that are minimally invasive, that don’t require large incisions, and that allow for a fast recovery,” said Dr. Stanford. “But the first step to treating varicose veins is diagnosing them and determining what type of treatment would be the most effective.”

Carrollton Surgical Group has locations in Carrollton, Villa Rica, Bremen and New Georgia. To learn more about the practice or varicose vein treatments, call 770.812.LEGS (5347) or visit www.CarrolltonSurgical.org.
