Tanner Medical Center/Villa Rica Construction Updates

Tanner Health is once again taking bold steps to improve access to care across west Georgia and east Alabama, marking a new chapter in health care in Villa Rica and across the region.

Construction is expected to begin soon on a nearly 74,000-square-foot expansion at Tanner Medical Center/Villa Rica — the latest step in the organization’s ongoing mission to redefine care and offer additional services for patients and their families.

The four-story building will add more than 25 inpatient beds to the hospital and feature three floors dedicated solely to serving women.

Highlights include newborn and continuing care nurseries, additional labor and delivery rooms, a new C-section room and expanded postpartum, imaging and outpatient OB-GYN services.

The project will also include new infrastructure to support heating, cooling and emergency power for the facility — essential systems that ensure continuity of care for patients and staff.

It builds on recent improvements at other Tanner facilities, including the ambitious three-story patient tower now underway at Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton.

This page will be updated as access to our Villa Rica hospital campus changes to make sure our patients, visitors and staff are informed.

Access to Tanner Medical Center/Villa Rica

Ensuring our patients and visitors have easy access to our hospital is our top priority throughout this project.

Beginning Monday, Nov. 3, the main entrance for the emergency department (ED) along Dallas Highway will be closed. If you are visiting the ED or surgical services, please turn onto Old Stone Road and continue through the roundabout to the ED entrance or to the new patient parking area.

If you are visiting the hospital for outpatient services or going to a practice inside one of the medical office buildings — VillaMed or VillaWest — you will use the main hospital entrance off of Dallas Highway.

Parking on campus in Villa Rica

The existing parking lot near the ED will be closed for construction, but additional parking has been added near Old Stone Road, easily accessible from the hospital roundabout.

Parking to the right of the VillaWest medical office building will also be closed during the project. Patients and Tanner team members may use the main hospital parking lot or the new area near Old Stone Road.

All practices to remain open

Throughout construction, all Tanner practices at the Villa Rica campus will remain open for the convenience of patients and visitors.

The Snowball Effect of Overmedicating in Older Adults
The Snowball Effect of Overmedicating in Older Adults

Many older adults take several medications to manage chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes and arthritis. Over time, new prescriptions can be added to treat symptoms or side effects from other medications — and the list keeps growing. This is known as polypharmacy, and while it’s common, it can also create unintended risks.
